Skilled Nursing Services

Skilled Nursing Services provide short-term medical management and skilled nursing intervention. Prescriptive therapy is provided as required. Services may include respite care, hospice care, and short-term alternatives to acute care hospitalization or home care. Our focus is on restoring optimal functioning as quickly as possible. The goal of these services is to help our patients regain and maximize their levels of independence in a relatively short length of stay.

Sub-acute and Rehabilitation Services

Our specialty care services can effectively manage transitions in patient care from the acute care hospital to sub-acute centers and to home. We deliver quality care, in the most efficient manner possible.

Our specialty services cover a wide spectrum of health care needs. Patients typically come to one of our centers after a hospital stay. However, admission can also come directly from home or another facility. Sub-acute medical services are designed to provide medically complex patients with acute care services to patients with medically complex conditions. They include intravenous and enteral therapy, pain management, post surgical care, non-acute cardiac care, specialized skin and wound care, dialysis support, and pulmonary disease management.

Sub-acute rehabilitation services help patients regain and maximize levels of independence following joint replacement, amputation, orthopedic injuries, stroke, and other cerebral injuries, multiple trauma, progressive neurological or neuromuscular diseases and other medical and surgical diagnoses.

Rehabilitation Services

Our rehabilitation services encompass general and intensive physical, occupational and speech therapies. Orthopedic, cardiac, and neurological programs utilizing these therapies are found at most centers. Home adaptation assessment for the house and arrangement of home care and equipment prior to discharge are made for our patients.

Our goal-oriented treatment program focuses on the potential, not the limitations, of the patient. Weekly interdisciplinary team meetings and ongoing re-evaluation of the treatment plan ensure that the therapies are appropriate for the patient while and maximize the outcomes. Through the support of family members and our dedicated staff, patients receive the proper motivation to reach their own goals. There's no mistaking the goal of patients receiving rehabilitative services at Athena managed centers: to return home, or to the next level of treatment as quickly as possible.

IV Therapies, Pain Management, Medically Complex Care and Wound Management Services

Athena centers offer a variety of specialized services for our patients who require them. These include services for:

• Patients needing medications and nutrition administered intravenously.
• Patients needing clinical monitoring and alleviation of pain.
• Patients needing monitoring, teaching or treatment for multiple diagnoses or conditions such as diabetes mellitus, renal failure, ostomies, and cardiac problems.
• Patients needing care and healing of wounds.

Oncology Management/Hospice Services

Our oncology management and hospice services revolve around helping patirnts and their family and loved ones through a terminal illness.  Nursing care and counselling services are available 24-hours a day wherever they might be needed.

Hospice trained nurses care for patients in an aesthetically pleasing environment. Unlimited visiting hours are encouraged and private, comfortable lounges are available for patients and their family members. Bereavement counseling and support services are provided by highly competent social workers who are sensitive to the needs of both patients and their loved ones.

Through arrangements with Medicare-certified hospice organizations, some Athena centers offer a unique program, "Life Sonnet," which addresses the needs of patients and family members dealing with a life threatening illness. The goal is to enhance the quality of life for patients and families by focusing on relieving physical and emotional pain and providing spiritual support and guidance.
